The Magic of Ubud

Igniting the Spark of Light Within Your Soul

The magic of Bali,

It’s hard to express,

Such an aliveness, a spirit,

That lies in this place.

Within the jungle, the fields,

Rice paddies so vast,

The smiles on the faces

Of people so kind.

The magic of Ubud,

It awakened my spark,

For adventure, for travel,

That had been shut down.

An aliveness, a spirit,

In my heart was revealed,

In the magic of Ubud,

A place that did feel like home.

My trip to Bali was beyond what I could have wished for. I went with little expectations, given the challenges I usually found when travelling. My intention was just to go on my own, to re-empower my self, to reconnect with my strength and take time out for myself.

The Yoga Barn was incredible, an iconic destination that had called to my heart. A yogi’s paradise, amidst the busyness of Ubud’s spark so alive.

But it wasn’t the yoga that changed me, despite its power to do, it was the people, the landscape, the adventure that did ensue.

And this highlighted to me, the importance of always tuning in to oneself, we don’t always know what we will need, and need to just let things go.

Let go of the mind’s planned agenda’s, and tune into the guidance within, to meet what the moment does call for, and follow each gentle whim.

On the back of the scooters, wind blowing the my face on my skin, I felt the beauty, the magic, all around me seep in.

The trees and jungle were magic, the waterfalls washing all pain away, as my heart felt more peaceful and less stressed day by day.

But most of all it was the people, that did truly make my heart smile, in their kindness, their care, of most of all their true hearts.

The scooter driver a musician singing, smile wide on his face, anticipating an upcoming performance, a genuine sense of peace and of grace.

The barista so cheerful, a face of kindness and peace, with a genuine sense of fulfilment, in his job pride he did take.

The waitress so helpful, willing to take care of my needs, nothing too hard to accomodate, a smile of warmth radiates.

Edhi the driver so happy, so kind and warm in his way, always had a new story, to share with passion each day.

But most of all it was Chika, beauty spa angel in disguise, a face of warmth and of beauty, she radiated it from afar. The care she took with the foot massage, a pedicure like none before, the attentive presence she brought to, every part of her job. The gratitude for her life here, the kindness that did shine through, inspiring in her way of being, it did make my heart full.

So sometimes it will be the places we expect that inspire us, the yoga teacher or book, but other times we will find this, in unexpected encounters that show.

That do show us embodied, what we learn on the mat, and so be open to each moment, you never know what will unfold next.

Pearls of Wisdom:

  • Letting life guide you do the wisdom you need, is far more powerful than placing expectation on where or whom it will arise from.

  • The deeper spiritual practice is in tuning in to our inner guidance for exactly what we do need, letting go of the pressures of what do to or what will serve us best.

Wisdom Within:

  1. Do I let my mind dictate what I do or need in each moment? That is, do I rigidly stick to plans that in fact may not serve me?

  2. How can I go with the flow in a more intuitive way, rather than having pre-determined expectations on how best to fill each new day?
